What Thermogenic Means for Slim Metrix: Cayenne, Green Tea and the Evidence
Thermogenic means heat-making. Your body makes heat when it digests food, moves and stays warm. On a label, the word says an ingredient may raise energy use a little. Capsaicin's effect is small (Ludy 2012), and green tea's weight effect was not significant (Jurgens 2012 Cochrane). Slim Metrix lists cayenne (40,000 H.U.) and green tea inside a 276 mg blend.
What is thermogenesis, and why does it matter for Slim Metrix?
Thermogenesis is the way your body makes heat. Every cell burns fuel to stay alive, and some of that energy leaves as warmth. That steady heat keeps your core near the same temperature all day.
Scientists split your daily energy use into three parts. The biggest part is resting energy, the fuel you use just to breathe, pump blood and keep organs working. The second part is activity. The third part is the heat made while you digest food.
Supplement makers borrow the word because heat means energy used. The sales page for Slim Metrix calls it "Thermogenic Fat-Burning Capsules." This post explains what that phrase can and cannot mean.
- Plain meaning
- Heat made by the body
- Biggest daily share
- Resting energy
- Parts you can change
- Activity, food choices, sleep
- Label use
- A marketing word, not a lab measure
What are the three main kinds of thermogenesis?
Your body raises heat output in three common ways. Food, movement and cold each turn up the burn for a while, then things settle back down.
Diet-induced
Digesting a meal takes energy. Protein costs more to process than fat or carbs. The effect is real but modest, and it fades a few hours after eating.
Exercise and movement
This is the part you control most. Walking, lifting and even standing add heat. Daily steps and chores can matter as much as planned workouts.
Cold exposure
In the cold, your body shivers and uses brown fat to stay warm. Both raise energy use. Most people spend little time cold enough for a big effect.
Notice what is missing from this list. No pill makes a big fourth category of its own. Ingredients sold as thermogenic try to add a small push on top of these three.
What does "thermogenic" mean on a supplement label?
On a label, thermogenic means the maker thinks one or more ingredients raise heat output. It does not tell you by how much. It also does not mean the product was tested for that effect.
U.S. law treats supplements differently from drugs. The FDA does not approve dietary supplements before they are sold (U.S. FDA, Dietary Supplements Q&A). So a word like thermogenic reaches the shelf without a required test behind it.
Three questions to ask about any thermogenic label
- Which ingredients are meant to make heat, and how much of each is inside?
- Did the studies use the same dose, or a much bigger one?
- Was the whole product ever tested in people, or only its parts?
We apply those three questions to Slim Metrix below. You can also read our full guide to fat-burner supplements for a wider view.
Does capsaicin from cayenne, one of the Slim Metrix ingredients, raise energy use?
Yes, a little. Capsaicin is the compound that makes chili peppers hot. A 2012 review by Ludy and colleagues pooled human studies on capsaicin and its milder cousin, capsiate (Ludy et al., 2012).
The review found that these compounds raised energy use and fat use slightly. The effect was small. Larger doses tended to give larger effects, and many people cannot comfortably eat that much heat.
What the capsaicin research does not show
- It does not show real body fat loss over months from capsaicin alone.
- It does not give a dose for cayenne powder inside a mixed capsule.
- It does not test cayenne combined with seven other plant extracts.
Cayenne can also cause warmth, stomach burning or heartburn in some people. Those are the most common complaints with spicy supplements.
Do green tea catechins and caffeine in Slim Metrix capsules boost metabolism?

Green tea is the most studied thermogenic ingredient. Its main compounds are catechins, led by EGCG, plus natural caffeine. Both have been tested for weight and energy use.
The Cochrane review
A 2012 Cochrane review by Jurgens and colleagues looked at green tea preparations taken for about 12 to 13 weeks (Jurgens et al., 2012 (Cochrane)). Weight loss was small and not statistically significant. The authors said it was unlikely to be clinically important. Studies run in Japan showed somewhat larger effects than those run elsewhere.
Caffeine
Caffeine raises energy use for a few hours. Regular coffee drinkers build tolerance, so the push shrinks. The Slim Metrix label does not list caffeine or a caffeine amount. Green tea extract can carry some, so ask first if you are sensitive.
Concentrated green tea extract also has a rare liver story. Our post on green tea extract and liver safety covers it in full.
Where do cayenne and green tea fit in the Slim Metrix formula?

Slim Metrix is a once-daily capsule. Cayenne and green tea are two of the eight ingredients in its 276 mg proprietary blend. The other six are alpha lipoic acid, milk thistle, berberine, resveratrol, Korean ginseng and banaba.
The cayenne line reads 40,000 H.U., which rates the heat of the pepper powder. The green tea line names a standardized leaf extract. Neither line gives milligrams. If the blend were split evenly, each ingredient would get about 35 mg, but the label does not say how it is split.
The brand frames its goals this way:
- Helps support your body's natural fat-metabolism pathways†
- Helps maintain healthy blood-sugar already within normal range†
- Supports balanced appetite & reduced cravings†
- Promotes steady all-day energy without the crash†
- Metabolic Boost†

How do thermogenic studies compare with Slim Metrix?
Thermogenic ingredient research next to one Slim Metrix capsule
| Detail | Capsaicin (Ludy 2012) | Green tea (Jurgens 2012) | Caffeine | Slim Metrix |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| What was tested | Capsaicin or capsiate | Green tea preparations | Caffeine drinks or pills | Cayenne and green tea extract inside a 276 mg blend |
| Dose on label | Varied by study | Varied by study | Varied | Not published per ingredient |
| Length | Mostly short studies | About 12–13 weeks | Hours to weeks | Daily use; 30 capsules per bottle |
| Main finding | Small rise in energy and fat use | Small, not significant weight loss | Short rise in energy use; tolerance builds | Formula not tested in a published trial |
| Common downside | Burning, heartburn | Rare liver injury with extracts | Jitters, poor sleep | See the side effects page |
The first two rows carry the key message. Each study tested one ingredient, often at a known dose. The capsule mixes many ingredients, and the label hides the split.

Why are "fat-burning" supplement claims a red flag?
Because fat burning and fat loss are not the same thing. Your body burns fat every hour of every day. Losing body fat only happens when you use more energy than you take in, over weeks and months.
A small, short rise in fat use during a lab test does not prove any change on the scale. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements notes that evidence for weight-loss supplements is limited and most effects are small (NIH ODS, Weight-loss supplements).
Warning signs on any label or ad
- Promises of a set number of pounds in a set number of days.
- Words like "melts fat" or "no diet needed."
- Before-and-after photos with no source.
- Hidden amounts for the key thermogenic ingredients.
The sales page for Slim Metrix uses the phrase thermogenic fat-burning. We treat that as the brand's marketing words. Research does not show fat burning for this exact formula, and we will not promise weight loss.
What can you fairly expect from Slim Metrix?
Slim Metrix is an easy daily routine. One small capsule each morning gives you zinc, chromium and a blend of well-known plant extracts. It has 0 calories and fits into a busy day.
It is not a heater you can feel working. The thermogenic ingredients are present in unknown, likely small amounts. Food, sleep and movement will shape your energy use far more.

- Take one capsule in the morning, as the label says.
- Walk more and add protein to meals to use the thermogenesis you control.
- Note your energy and cravings once a week.

Thermogenic questions
What does thermogenic mean in plain words?
Thermogenic means heat-making. Your body makes heat every time it digests food, moves or stays warm. On a supplement label, the word says an ingredient may nudge that heat output up a little. It is a marketing term, not a measured result.
Does cayenne in a capsule burn fat?
Research on capsaicin, the hot compound in peppers, shows a small rise in energy use and fat use. The Ludy 2012 review called the effect small, and stronger doses gave bigger effects. That is not the same as losing body fat.
What does 40,000 H.U. mean on the Slim Metrix label?
H.U. stands for heat units. It rates how hot the cayenne powder is, not how much of it sits in each capsule. The amount of cayenne inside the 276 mg blend is not published.
Does Slim Metrix contain caffeine?
The label does not list caffeine as an ingredient and does not state a caffeine amount. Green tea leaf extract can carry some natural caffeine. If you are sensitive to caffeine, ask the order desk or your doctor before you start.
Is Slim Metrix a fat burner?
The sales page calls it thermogenic fat-burning capsules. That is the brand's marketing phrase. No human study has tested this formula for fat loss, so we describe it as a daily metabolism support capsule.
How should I take Slim Metrix?
Take one capsule a day, preferably in the morning, with or without food. Do not take more than one capsule. Talk to a doctor first if you take any medicine.
