How to Read a Proprietary Blend: The Slim Metrix 276 mg Example
A proprietary blend lists ingredients by weight, heaviest first, under one total. Slim Metrix puts eight ingredients in 276 mg, about 35 mg each on average. Berberine is fourth, so it can weigh at most 69 mg, against 500–1,500 mg in trials. The blend hides real doses. Slim Metrix passes 4 of 10 checks and fails 3.
What is a proprietary blend, and what must the Slim Metrix label show?
Three rules, and one big gap, in plain words.
A proprietary blend is a set of ingredients listed together under one total weight. Brands use blends to keep a recipe private. Federal label rules (21 CFR 101.36) still require a few things.
Slim Metrix has one blend of eight ingredients weighing 276 mg per capsule. Zinc and chromium sit outside the blend, so their amounts are printed.
- Rule 1
- The blend's total weight must be printed. On this label it is 276 mg.
- Rule 2
- Every ingredient in the blend must be named.
- Rule 3
- Ingredients must be listed in descending order by weight, from most to least.
- Not required
- The weight of each single ingredient inside the blend.
- DV column
- Blend ingredients with no Daily Value show “**” instead of a percent.
The FDA does not review or approve supplement labels before sale (U.S. FDA, Dietary Supplements Q&A). So these rules are what the maker must follow, not something the FDA has checked for this bottle.
What does the Slim Metrix Supplement Facts panel print?

Here is the full panel in reading order. The minerals come first with exact amounts. The blend follows as one line with its total.
- Calories: 0. Total carbohydrate: less than 1 g.
- Zinc (as zinc gluconate): 5.5 mg, 50% DV.
- Chromium (as chromium picolinate): 0.05 mg, which is 50 mcg. The label prints 41.67% DV.
- Proprietary blend: 276 mg, DV not established.
- Other ingredients: Hypromellose (Vegetable Capsule), Microcrystalline Cellulose, Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide.
The chromium percent matches an older reference value. Against today's 35 mcg DV, 50 mcg is about 143%. Our Slim Metrix Supplement Facts page covers every line.
What can you work out from the Slim Metrix 276 mg blend?
More than you might think. Because the list runs from heaviest to lightest, each ingredient can weigh no more than 276 mg divided by its place in line. The fourth ingredient, for example, has three heavier or equal ones ahead of it, so it cannot pass 276 ÷ 4.
- Blend total
- 276 mg8 ingredients
- Average
- 34.5 mgAbout 35 mg each
- Largest
- ALAAt least 34.5 mg
- Smallest
- BanabaAt most 34.5 mg
The upper limit for each blend ingredient, if the label follows the descending-order rule
| Place | Ingredient | Standardized to | Most it can weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Alpha lipoic acid | Not stated | Under 276 mg (at least 34.5 mg) |
| 2 | Green tea leaf extract | 98% polyphenols, 80% catechins, 50% EGCG | 138 mg |
| 3 | Milk thistle seed extract | 80% silymarin | 92 mg |
| 4 | Berberine HCl | 97% berberine, from Berberis aristata root | 69 mg |
| 5 | Resveratrol | Polygonum cuspidatum root extract 200:1 | 55 mg |
| 6 | Cayenne fruit | 40,000 H.U. (heat units) | 46 mg |
| 7 | Korean ginseng aerial extract | 8% ginsenosides | 39 mg |
| 8 | Banaba leaf extract | 2% corosolic acid | 34.5 mg |
These are ceilings, not amounts. Each real amount is almost certainly lower, because the ingredients ahead of it are usually heavier, not equal.
What can't the Slim Metrix blend tell you?
It cannot tell you the real dose of any single ingredient. Everything else on this list follows from that one gap.
- Exact amounts. Berberine could be 69 mg or 5 mg. Both fit the label.
- Whether any ingredient is a token amount. A tiny sprinkle of a studied herb still earns a spot on the list.
- How much EGCG, silymarin or ginsenosides you get. The percents apply to an extract weight that is not printed.
- Caffeine. Green tea extract can carry some. The label does not list it.
- Batch changes. The split inside the blend could shift between lots without the total changing.
How do the Slim Metrix blend ceilings compare with research doses?
Berberine: at most 69 mg, versus 500 mg at the low end of trials.
Chromium: 50 mcg, versus 200 mcg at the low end of weight trials.
EGCG: at most 69 mg, versus the 800 mg level that raised liver enzymes.
Label ceilings against published doses. None of these studies tested the finished product.
| Ingredient | Most per capsule | Research dose | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Berberine | 69 mg | 500–1,500 mg a day (Dong et al., 2012) | At best about a seventh of the lowest trial dose |
| Chromium | 50 mcg (printed) | 200–1,000 mcg a day (Onakpoya et al., 2013) | A quarter of the low end; effect there was about 0.5 kg |
| Green tea extract | 138 mg (≤69 mg EGCG) | Weight effect not significant (Jurgens et al., 2012 (Cochrane)) | Low for effect, and far from the EFSA 800 mg EGCG level |
| Alpha lipoic acid | Under 276 mg | About 1.3 kg in 10 trials (Kucukgoncu et al., 2017) | Trial doses were usually hundreds of mg |
| Resveratrol | 55 mg | Larger effects under 500 mg a day (Mousavi et al., 2019) | Could fall in a studied range; absorption is very low |
| Banaba | 34.5 mg (2% corosolic acid) | 32–48 mg of a 1% extract (Judy et al., 2003) | The one ingredient that could reach a study amount |
The picture is mixed. Berberine and chromium sit well below trial doses. Banaba and resveratrol could land near studied amounts, though banaba's study lasted only two weeks. None of this shows that Slim Metrix burns fat. The fat-burner guide explains why small thermogenic effects rarely show on the scale.

How does Slim Metrix score on a 10-point blend checklist?
Slim Metrix blend checklist: 4 pass, 3 partial, 3 fail. Reviewed September 24, 2026.
| Check | What Slim Metrix shows | Score |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Every ingredient named, with strengths | Ten ingredients listed; extract percents printed | Pass |
| 2. Mineral amounts printed | Zinc 5.5 mg and chromium 50 mcg outside the blend | Pass |
| 3. Blend amounts disclosed | Only the 276 mg total | Fail |
| 4. Doses near research | Berberine at most 69 mg vs 500+ mg; chromium 50 vs 200+ mcg | Fail |
| 5. Fat-burning claim supported | No human study of the formula; single-ingredient effects are small | Fail |
| 6. Price shown before checkout | Pack sizes listed; prices appear on the order page | Partial |
| 7. Third-party test report | Lot SLI-26/GO-6640 and CoA SLI-6640-26-GO given; no report published | Partial |
| 8. Money-back guarantee | 60 days from purchase with a written return process | Pass |
| 9. Real contacts | Phone +1 (562) 523-2626, two emails and a New York office | Pass |
| 10. Maker named | Seller named (Goslimmetrix); manufacturer not visible on the label images | Partial |
The passes are real. The label is complete, the minerals are clear and the contacts work. The fails are about the numbers that matter most for results, so weigh them first.
How should the blend math shape your decision on Slim Metrix?
Set expectations to match the ceilings. Slim Metrix is a simple once-daily capsule with a full ingredient list, but its key doses are hidden and mostly below research.
Proprietary blend and Slim Metrix questions
What is a proprietary blend on a supplement label?
It is a group of ingredients listed under one total weight. The label must name each ingredient in order from most to least by weight. It does not have to show how much of each one is inside.
How much berberine is in Slim Metrix?
The exact amount is not published. Berberine is fourth in a 276 mg blend, so if the label follows the ordering rule it can weigh no more than 69 mg. Trials used 500 to 1,500 mg a day.
Which Slim Metrix blend ingredient is the largest?
Alpha lipoic acid. It is listed first, and blend ingredients must appear in descending order by weight. It weighs at least 34.5 mg and less than 276 mg.
Is a proprietary blend a sign of a bad product?
Not by itself. Brands often say it protects their recipe. The cost to you is that you cannot check any single dose against research, so you must take the formula partly on trust.
Is the green tea extract in Slim Metrix a liver risk?
The risk looks low at this size. Green tea is second in the blend, so it weighs at most 138 mg, which is at most 69 mg of EGCG. EFSA saw liver enzyme rises at 800 mg of EGCG a day or more.
Can I ask the brand for the blend amounts?
Yes. Call the order desk at +1 (562) 523-2626 or email [email protected]. Use the question list on this page. If you get an answer in writing, keep it with your order email.
How did Slim Metrix score on the blend checklist?
It passed 4 points, earned partial credit on 3 and failed 3. It passes on the ingredient list, mineral amounts, guarantee and contacts. It fails on blend amounts, doses versus research and support for the fat-burning claim.
